Petit Camping – Laser design & light tipi

The Petit Camping festival asked us to design the laser scenography for its mainstage, along with the laser tipi raised ten metres up in the trees of the campsite that gives the festival its name.

On the mainstage, the beams are projected into layers of coloured tulle stretched across several planes. Depending on its colour, a beam catches one veil and passes straight through the next without revealing it. That lets us choose the distance at which the light materialises and sculpt real depth, where a laser usually draws nothing but a flat curtain. A DMX bridge keeps the lighting designers in control from their own desk: colour, content, and three zones – high, middle and low.

The tipi called for a laser head ten metres in the air, with no existing structure and no way to lift heavy gear under tree cover. We built a six-metre mast on site, then hoisted and guyed it into a tree with ropes and pulleys. The cone of beams comes back down to a ring of light tracing the base of the tipi, ten metres below.
